H H

2012 Video projection, Perspex, Ash, Steel, Smoke

H E N R I E T T E   K A S S A Y  -  S C H U S T E R
&   H E R M I O N E    M E R R Y

hh is an unguarded self-portrait that does not know its own image. Exploring the slippage of identity and informed by ‘Das Unheimlich,’ the Uncanny, the work invites you to enter the unhomely space where identity is confronted with its own Other. Alluding to the psychoanalytical metaphor of the house as the representation of the Self, the work is created to imprint itself on the architecture of the building in the manner that identity imprints on the Self.

Finalist in the 2013 Substation Contemporary Art Prize
Exhibited at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts as part of the 2012 Innovators Program
