Sternengucker uses the event horizon - the point of no return - as a point of departure to explore ideas of transition, the unknown, the threshold and the liminal zone. An event horizon marks the transition between the observable and the non-observable. What lies beyond cannot be witnessed. Once the gateway is crossed nothing can escape. The German word for pupil, Pupille, is derived from Latin pupilla - little doll - referring to the reflection of the self in the pupil of the other. In the manner that an event horizon obscures the unobservable and the enigma of the black hole, looking into the eye of another person one can never see past one's own reflection to what lies beyond.
